In 1984, the Government of West Papua took the proactive step of establishing a conservation agency dedicated to safeguarding approximately 716 bird species and 3,000 species of orchids (Orchidaceae). This endeavour led to the establishment of the Biak Bird and Orchid Park (TBTA). Beyond serving as a tourism facility, this area also fulfils crucial roles in conservation, education, and research.

Recognizing the significance of this initiative, the IDF has been appointed as a partner to the West Papua government, working in collaboration with the West Papua Forestry and Environment Service to support the development of TBTA Biak.

As part of our involvement, the IDF has been assigned several responsibilities. These include formulating a comprehensive marketing strategy for TBTA, aimed at enhancing its appeal as a tourism destination. Additionally, we are focused on fostering partnerships with donor agencies, government bodies, private organizations, as well as domestic and international higher education institutions.

The IDF's active engagement in the development of Biak TBTA demonstrates its commitment to contributing to conservation efforts and realizing the park's vision as a prominent hub for eco-tourism, eco-education, and a national park.
